LESSON 2-rhino basics

Updated: Aug 2

WHY RHINO ?

  • RHINO is a software that allows us to edit on both 3d and 2d models simultaneously. it helps us see what are 2d plans look and helps us understand and get a clearer view on the model we are modelling. RHINO is a mix of both SketchUp and AutoCAD

  • RHINO is actually good in doing more curved structures as compared to AutoCAD and especially compared to REVIT

RHINO set up

  • rhino offers file size and units of large objects (meters) and small objects (millimeters) depending on the scale and accuracy of the project the units and file size will vary.

  • rhino has many viewport options that can be changed

RHINO navigation

  • SELECT - left click an object to select press "esc" to unselect. hold control to select more than 1 object. drag and left click right to left to select an area

  • MOVE - to move an object either click and hold it or to move in a more accurate spot type "move" and drag to the desired area. *remember to have Osnap on

  • DELETE - to delete just press "delete"

  • COPY - to copy just press "ctrl+C" and to past press "ctrl+V"

  • PAN - shift plus right click

  • ORBIT - right click

  • ZOOM - scroll wheel

RHINO lines

  • lines can be found at the side at the toolbar. "polylines" are multiple lines that will connect to form 1 object unlike regular lines. to access polylines type in "polyline"

  • control point curves helps create curved lines by picking dots to form a curve

  • to form shapes like circle and rectangle type in said shapes in command

Initials House Excercise

unrendered image of the initial buildings

rendered image - i imported texture from my files - i tried making a door by manually modelling a handle - while making windows and doors i discovered "make hole" command in rhino Rhino house exercise updated using new methods - i discovered a new way to make windows using boolean difference

Boolean difference how to do?

1-use vertical rectangle tool by right clicking the rectangle tool and finding the vertical rectangle tool. 2-place the rectangle polyline onto the surface

3-extrude the rectangle by using "extrudecrv" command (extrude curve)

4-right click the two spheres icon and click on boolean difference

5- click on the extrusion you want to keep first then click enter then click on the extrusion you want to delete then click enter

voila the hole is now created boolean difference being used in my model updated initials house exercise shaded view of the interior
