LESSON 5-Introduction to dobot

What is Dobot?


  • Dobot, more specifically Dobot Magician is a robotic arm used for education and small-scale tasks. It can draw, 3D print, laser engrave, and pick and place objects. It's precise, easier to program compared to other robotic arms, and great for learning and prototyping robotics and automation.

Cartesian vs Robotics 3dprinting

  • the difference between a cartesian 3dprinter like Ultimaker 3D and a Robotic arm like Dobot in 3d printing lies in the axis. A cartesian printer's print bed and nozzles moves in 3 perpendicular axes X,Y and Z. while a robotic arm like Dobot oporates with 4 to 6 axises thus being able to print complex and curvy shapes faster and more precise.

-easy to setup -can be used for other task other than 3d printing

-easy to mantain -can print complex shape better and faster

-affordable price -can print on curved surfaces

CONS CONS

-takes longer time to -cost (expensive) print complex shapes -hard to mantain due to complex codes and part

  • Robotic arm with multiple axis with interchangeable end effectors for different task like 3d printing or gripping

  • its portability due to its size being small

  • programmibility as it uses software like python and c++ to let users customise the robot's application

  • customisability, dobot can be customised by adding rails conveyer belts and more dobots to carry out a task

Dobot studio


  • Dobot studio is the app where to control Dobots. Dobot studios a variety of options like teaching and playback, blocky , 3D printing so on and so forth

Teaching and playback

  • teaching and playback is a feature where you can move the dobot by pressing a button and moving it to your desired location then releasing it. the dobot will track the movement and write it down on a sheet to mimic the movements

Blocky

  • is a feature which is an intuitive drag-and-drop programming software with predefined blocks for easy control of Dobot robotic arms. It simplifies coding for beginners, supports real-time simulation for testing, and is ideal for educational use and rapid prototyping of robotic applications.





*blocky commands in action *codes we used in blocky How can Dobot be applied in Singapore's construction context? it is not secret that Singapore uses alot of prefabricated modules like PC columns and pre fabricated pre finished volumetric consturction (ppvc) modules. How a normal precast column is being assembled is by a crane hoisting the column up and workers fill the column with concrete through grouting sleeves to connect the columns to the other elements like PC facade and PC slab how pre cast columns are being assembled and grouting being done

  • groutin techniques showned in the video to "stick" the column doen onto the PC slab So how can dobot be applied? - Singapore government has been trying very hard to reduce reliance on manpower in the construction industry. dobot robotic arms can be used to not only reduce manpower but also reduce human error as when the workers are filling the grouting on the ground be it for PC columns or PC facades their workmanship may vary some may be very good and some may be poor leading to problems like water seeping in or uneven surface. Dobot can be set up on site where the grouting needs to be done and can ensure a consistent standard when grouting be it pouring the the cement into grouting sleeve or applying cement to the slabs and lower levels. maybe in the future dobots might be strong enough to lift columns and place them precisely onto slabs to reduce human error and increase precision

i used teach and play and this is the spreadsheet for the above movements some problems i faced was actually the column was too tall and i had to use the max height that the dobot can go
